This work on paper by Patrick Piccinelli is representative of his research into the dialogue between randomness and structure. Piccinelli is sensitive to temporal passages (as is the case for this work which successively evokes the end of the night and the beginning of the day). He is a morning painter; who gets up early to go to his studio because it is the most favorable time of day for his pictorial work. The red trace is a laser print on tracing paper. This red zone partially covers a black rectangle; another way of representing the transition from sleep to wakefulness.“Beyond the Morning” represents the future; hope; and opportunity.
