For me, the wall, as an element of architecture, represents a formal, geometric visual structure upon which the traces left by humankind appear (akin to the work of the painter Antoni Tàpies). It is the informal and random aspect that expresses the spirit, the heart, time, and emotion.
It can be said that in this series, I revisit the codes of Street Art within my quest for minimalist abstraction.
"One could say that we find what separates Mangold from Scully in the distinction established during the Renaissance between 'disegno' (drawing) and 'colore' (color), or in the opposition between gestural painting (Pollock) and color field (Newman) in abstract expressionism."
Tony Godfrey, "Painting Today," Phaidon Press, 2010.
