This work on paper consists of 2 parts (Arches paper) glued on Fabriano paper. The total format of the 2 painted parts is 26X52 cm. The format of the Fabriano sheet is 50X65 cm.

The left part is painted with ink; the right part is painted with acrylic and ink.The atmosphere of the great northern ports (North America; Germany; Netherlands; Belgium) inspires Patrick Piccinelli. He spent his early childhood on a houseboat with his parents. The boat was transporting goods on the Rhine between the port of Basel and the port of Rotterdam for a Swiss company.

The infrastructures of the ports are magnificent geometric elements confronting the aquatic element which directly recalls the compositions of Piccinelli.

Indigo and ultramarine blues mixed with black ink evoke the deep; oily waters along the docks and hulls of ships.

It is an almost melancholic and nostalgic work.
