Sea View Window, acrylic paint, pigment on canvas.
This painting offers a reflection on representation and framing.
The sea: between matter and abstraction:
At the bottom, horizontal bands, graduated from cobalt blue to midnight blue, almost geometric, represent a stylized, architectural sea, evoking depth through layers.
At the top, a patch of fluid paint, with dynamic splashes, represents a lived, agitated, material sea, almost physical in its gesture.
These two pictorial registers coexist: the sea as an idea and the sea as a sensation.
The red frame drawn in the middle of the composition is the window. It does not delimit a luminous exterior as one might expect, but rather cuts into the sea itself, framing the blue depth below and grazing the patch above.
It is a paradoxical window: it does not separate the inside from the outside; it isolates a fragment of representation within the representation, like a painting within a painting. The gaze is thus placed in a mise en abyme. The artwork questions our perception of the sea: through framing (the red window), through distance (the geometric bands), or through the body (the splashes).
The boundary between the expressionistic gesture at the top and the geometric rigor at the bottom suggests a tension between the raw experience of the sea and its visual ordering.
"Sea View Window" is a reflection on the very act of framing the sea, between overflowing and controlling it, between immersion and distance. The red window, by imposing itself as an artificial form on the blue background, suggests that every view is already a choice, a fragmentation of reality.
