This abstract painting plays on the tension between the geometric and the gestural. Its title is inspired by “Unlimited” (1974), an album by Art Blakey marked by raw percussive energy and a rhythmic architecture that is both rigorous and explosive.

The flat orange color is the heart of the composition—it overflows, it cannot be contained. It is exactly like Blakey's presence behind his drums: massive, central, overflowing the framework of the accompaniment to become the main voice itself. The torn edges of the orange are his cymbals stretching beyond the beat.

The thin black line that crosses the composition without filling it is the structure of the theme that holds everything together without crushing the improvisation. It delimits a space without imprisoning it. Unlimited in the literal sense.
