The composition as a horizon:
The heart of the work is a central vertical rectangle, structured by three superimposed horizontal bands: bright orange dissolving into white at the top, deep red, dense midnight blue, and then electric blue at the bottom. This layering directly evokes the sky at dawn: the warm hues of sunrise above, the still-dark horizon line, and the space opening up to the daylight. The eye is drawn from bottom to top, like a rising sun.
White and graphic texture:
Around the colored rectangle extends a white surface that I worked with a paint marker; I like to draw by improvising! These graphic elements evoke the early morning mist, the diffused light, the calm of a suspended moment before the world awakens. They bring the peacefulness of the title, a gentle vibration, a silence.
The tension between warmth and cold:
Orange/red (warmth, rising sun) meets midnight blue (residual darkness, coolness) in a stark confrontation; the line is sharp, without any blending. This tension embodies a new morning: the transition between lingering night and the assertive dawn, two states coexisting for a moment longer.
The geometric abstraction doesn't impose a precise image but creates an emotional space into which one projects one's own experience of morning. The formal rigor (rectangles, straight lines) contrasts with the gentleness evoked, like the cold clarity of dawn on a still-sleeping world.
