This painting can be combined with one or more other paintings from the "New Wave" series.
Piccinelli was a student at ECAL (ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne) in the 80s. The sounds of groups like Cure; Depeche Mode and New Order echoed in the school's workshops.
This work on canvas is a way of revisiting this cultural and aesthetic movement.
The visual style of the New Wave movement was decidedly new and distinguished by the use of bright; contrasting colors. The outfits were often eccentric and reflected a bold; avant-garde approach to fashion. Neon colors were particularly popular.
In addition to colors; geometric patterns were also characteristic. Checkerboard patterns; stripes; circles and other abstract shapes could be seen on clothing and accessories. The idea was to create a visual style that challenged the established fashion norms of the time.
