Although of Swiss nationality; Patrick Piccinelli is originally from Northern Italy in the Como region. This work on canvas titled "Journey to Milan" is a tribute to his roots and the extraordinary culture of Italy.
The chromatic composition revisits the colors of the Italian flag.
In Italian literature; Milan has often been mentioned in classic works. One of the most famous examples is the epic poem "L'Inferno" (Hell) by Dante Alighieri; from the "Divine Comedy". In this work; Dante visits the circles of hell and passes through Milan; as well as other Italian cities; on his spiritual journey.
The English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley wrote "Epipsychidion"; a poem in which he recalls his meeting with his future wife; Mary Shelley; in Milan.
Piccinelli was also very interested in visiting the Brera Academy of Fine Arts; particularly the sculpture workshops.
