My research in the pictorial field of abstraction is nourished by the music that I listen to in my studio. These days; I listened to an album by Kenny Dorham; his improvised music inspired me for this work on Arches paper.
Kenny Dorham's style on this album "Jazz Workshop; San Fancisco; 1961" is a combination of energetic bebop and more lyrical passages. His trumpet is clear and powerful; and he is known for his ability to express a range of emotions through his playing.
I would like the viewer of my painting to be able to feel these emotions!
There is a special magic in the present moment captured in this live recording. Every breath; every applause; every murmur from the audience is part of this urban symphony. It is a celebration of unpredictability and spontaneity; a tribute to the free spirit of jazz.
