The brown square in the center is removed in successive layers. The painter applied purple and then covered it with red. The brown square belongs as much to the red square as to the purple square.

This work by Patrick Piccinelli tells us about a peaceful confrontation between order and disorder. But this time the elements are as if broken down and simply juxtaposed on the white background of the canvas.

This composition is part of the conceptual art of minimalism and abstract expressionism.

Piccinelli was very impressed with a wall painting by painter and sculptor Sol LeWitt; seen in Paris in a gallery during his studies at the Beaux-Arts. (ECAL LAUSANNE; University of Art and Design).

This painting on canvas is perhaps a reminiscence of this fleeting vision of a mural by Sol LeWitt.

At the same time the chromatic composition refers to the colors of the Pompeii frescoes.
