The formal composition of this work on paper is based on a dialogue established by the painter between the square and the rectangle.

The square; colored light cadmium red; is almost completely filled. The red color sort of spills over the square to reveal the rectangle that contains the square (as if the painter had started painting the rectangle but not finished it.

The gray square is simply delimited by a vertical black line. This formal play is accentuated by the horizontal and vertical shifts.

The red traces; drawn lines and spots are the informal (and emotional) counterpoint to the geometric composition.
