I always listen to music in my studio, especially Miles Davis. The title of this work is inspired by one of his pieces.

This abstract painting reveals connections with Miles Davis' interpretation of “Softly As A Morning Sunrise,” creating a dialogue between visual abstraction and musical improvisation.

Geometric shapes float on the surface as Davis' musical phrases unfold in the sound space. This non-hierarchical composition recalls the musician's “cool” approach, where each element finds its place without dominating the whole.

The impasto, splashes, and smoothed areas visually convey the variety of Davis's attack—from whispered breaths to staccato notes.

The title “Softly As A Morning Sunrise” evokes a gentle, progressive temporality. The pictorial composition conveys this same temporal quality through its transparencies and superimpositions, which suggest a gradual unfolding, like the dawn breaking.
