This work on Arches paper is made with “artist” quality acrylic paint and “artist” Indian ink.

The title is inspired by a poem by the Swiss Philippe Jaccottet.

The shadow of a bird flying above a lake symbolizes freedom; escape; and the fleeting passage of time.

My workshop is located near Lake Neuchâtel in Switzerland. I find it particularly beautiful when its surface is peaceful without a wave. This work evokes the tranquility of the lake disturbed by the ephemeral movement of the bird; creating a contrast between immobility and dynamism.

The shadow on the lake juxtaposes two elements: the sky (where the bird flies) and the water (which reflects). This can be seen as a representation of the duality between the spiritual and the material; or between the ideal and the real.

The calm of the lake combined with the movement of the bird can invite meditation and appreciation of moments of tranquility in an often hectic world.
