This work on paper by Patrick Piccinelli evokes the extraordinary visual juxtapositions visible in the streets of New York; colors; typography of advertisements; signs; reflections; graffiti. This composition is produced using a mixed technique: collage (advertisement for the Armory Show New York; torn blue paper); aerosol (the large orange rectangle); traces (blue acrylic ink and black ink)."To speak of the 'return of abstraction' would suppose that abstraction had disappeared; which is not at all the case. But if; in the first part of the 20th century; abstraction asserted itself as a choice deliberate non-representation of reality; today it is much less experienced as a strict and asserted positioning: if it is something to explore for some artists; for others; abstraction is a form of representation like another- this is the case with Gehardt Richter.
