I really like this city and its seaside; for me; this place expresses both joy and nostalgia.
The work features a vibrant color palette (bright blues; orange; yellow) that evokes Brighton's characteristically colorful houses. The work's geometric; fragmented style; with its overlapping blocks of color and crisp shapes; reflects Brighton's energy and eclectic spirit.
This collage on mixed paper with a linocut print is also a tribute to the song "Rumble In Brighton" by the British group The Stray Cats.
The stark contrasts in the image (black against bright colors) symbolize Brighton's duality: a stylish seaside town on one hand; a center of alternative subcultures on the other. The composition's dynamism; with its intersecting lines and clashing shapes; echoes the title "Rumble in Brighton" and the energy of the local music scene.
