The concept of emergence refers to the moment when something appears from something else, when a new order arises from a system that contained it without revealing it. This work visually stages this in several ways:

1. The waterline

The blue acts as a primordial mass, ocean, night, raw matter. The stain is located precisely at the boundary between blue and white: it literally emerges.

2. Inside and outside the frame

The black rectangle represents structured, rational order. The stain transgresses it: it begins within the frame and overflows upward, beyond it. This is emergence as a transcendence of constraint.

3. Gold hidden in chaos

At the heart of the black stain shines a golden substance, which I created using a mineral pigment. The title suggests that something precious, luminous, was there, latent, and is beginning to reveal itself. Emergence is not creation ex nihilo: it was already there, buried deep within.

4. The Ascending Direction

The ink splashes rise toward the top of the composition. The movement of the work is vertical, ascending—a force that is extracted, that rises. The small, scattered drops above the frame are like the first manifestations of a presence seeking to exist.
