With this work I express the dynamics associated with the improvised and expressive music of free jazz; a musical genre known for its spontaneity and its break with traditional structures. I visually transcribe the energy and controlled chaos of this music listened to in my studio.
The abstract writing visible in the painting plays a key role in this analogy. The interlocking calligraphic lines and shapes recall improvisations where each musician freely explores sound patterns while remaining connected to the ensemble.
Here; graphic marks intertwine and overlap; creating a visual complexity that reflects the rich sonic textures of free jazz.
The geometric composition features elements that appear to "explode" out of the frames; expressing the tension between order and disorder; a central theme in free jazz.
