I live in Switzerland near Lake Neuchâtel, and from my studio window, I can see the Jura mountain range on the opposite shore of the lake. The colors in my work are inspired by the colors and textures of the Jura. The left side is inspired by the Jura mountains, and the right by the lake, which is often calm and smooth.
The black line: the opposite shore.
What unites and separates the two parts—this black border—is perhaps the opposite shore itself: the horizon line where the Jura plunges into the lake, that precise moment when turbulence becomes calm, when rock becomes water.
"Jura" is a work about the experience of seeing from an inhabited place. I painted the contemplation of the mountain: a strong, almost physical presence, in constant contrast to the luminous softness of the lake. It is an inner geography as much as a real one.
