For this work; I created a linocut. The print balances with the geometric and chromatic composition. This work represents an abstract interpretation of Copacabana in my visual memory.
The geometric aesthetic of this composition is reminiscent of the Brazilian concretist and neo-concretist art movement.
The precise geometric shapes; vivid colors and modular composition echo the works of artists such as Hélio Oiticica and Lygia Clark.
The combination of structural rigor and improvisation recalls the musical approach of Elis Regina.
The use of negative and positive spaces in the work is a reminder of the openwork facades and sunshades (cobogós) characteristic of Brazilian modernist architecture; where light and shadow create a rhythmic visual play.
"Last Year in Copacabana" embodies this Brazilian cultural synthesis of the 60s and 70s; where visual arts; music and architecture shared the same language.
