I layer gestural signs reminiscent of both Chinese characters and Western graffiti—a hybrid calligraphy, neither entirely legible nor entirely abstract. This ambivalence reveals the very essence of the experience of walking in Hong Kong for a foreigner: meaning is perceived everywhere, in signs, ideograms, and wall inscriptions, without always being decipherable. The city presents itself as a dense yet elusive text.

The gesture itself mimics walking: repetitive, cumulative, without a clearly identifiable beginning or end. The lines overlap like the layers of a palimpsest city.
